Türkiye's e-Visa is not open to Nigerian passports

This page previously described applying online at evisa.gov.tr. That was wrong: Türkiye's published e-Visa list of 48 countries does not include this passport, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says ordinary passport holders require a visa. Sites that take payment for a Turkish e-visa on an ineligible passport produce nothing usable and do not refund. Note also that evisa.gov.tr now redirects to a contractor site, dtvgroup.com.tr, appointed by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs — check where you have landed before entering anything.

Türkiye is a natural gateway for Nigerians — Istanbul connects onward to Europe and Asia — but the e-Visa shortcut does not apply to a Nigerian passport. This is a consular application: allow a month, assemble the file properly, and budget for a fee the mission sets rather than a published price.

  1. Check the e-Visa list before paying anyone

    Türkiye publishes the 48 nationalities eligible for the e-Visa. This passport is not among them, so an online application produces nothing. Third-party sites that charge anyway do not refund.

  2. Book at the Turkish mission or its application centre in Abuja

    Türkiye works through appointed visa application centres in most countries. Confirm which one handles your application and what must be lodged in person.

  3. Assemble the file before the appointment

    Passport valid at least six months beyond the intended stay, photographs to specification, confirmed return ticket, accommodation for the whole stay, three months of bank statements and an employment or business letter. Incomplete files are returned rather than held.

  4. Attend, pay and allow two to four weeks

    Pay the consular fee and the centre's service charge — both non-refundable. Processing is not expedited for tourism.

  5. Check the visa before you travel

    Confirm the dates, entries and permitted stay on the visa itself, and that the passport number matches.

The government domain evisa.gov.tr returns a redirect to dtvgroup.com.tr, a company the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has authorised to run visa application infrastructure. The redirect is legitimate, but it means the address bar no longer shows a .gov.tr domain during an application — which is exactly the confusion lookalike sites rely on. Reach it by typing evisa.gov.tr and following the redirect, never through a search advertisement.
